A group of 16-year-olds have chosen to support homeless people in Derbyshire as part of their activities with the National Citizen Service (NCS).
They put together donations of essential items for people who have experience of homelessness and are now living in supported housing.
The group explains: “We are a group of young people aged 16 who have chosen to do NCS this summer. The first two weeks consisted of an adventure week and week at Nottingham University developing life skills.
“As part of our third and final week we organised a social action project to benefit members of our local community. We decided to host a coffee, cake and raffle morning to raise funds for Derventio Housing Trust. We considered issues that impact our area and decided we wanted to help the homeless. The funds we raised were spent creating care packages for homeless individuals which we then took to the charity.
“NCS has been a great experience for us and we would recommend it to other young people. The ability to make a difference in our area has been very rewarding.”

It is hard to describe how meaningful these simple gifts are to someone who was recently homeless and is now trying to settle into their new home.
