Friesland students shine in Wonderland
‘Would you like an adventure now, or shall we have our tea first?’
‘Wonderland as you’ve never seen it before! While retaining the magic of Lewis Carroll’s classic tale, this adaptation breathes fresh life into the much-loved story about rabbit holes, pocket watches and talking caterpillars. This new adaptation follows Alice as she escapes her home to find adventure in a topsy-turvy world. The White Rabbit is still late for the Duchess, the Cheshire Cat still won’t stop grinning and the Hatter is, well, still mad. But in the middle of it all is a very modern Alice, a young girl with a vivid imagination and a family life that’s far from perfect.’
‘Alice’ by Laura Wade has just been performed at Friesland School in Sandiacre to round off the academic year. Over 120 students took part in the production which had flying playing cards, upside down chairs hanging from the ceiling, rabbit holes hidden in arm chairs and a variety of weird, wonderful and sometimes completely bonkers characters. A rabbit hole was created in the foyer for the audience to go down to enter the theatre which had been transformed into a modern Wonderland where the audience met tap dancing lobsters, two rappers who went by the names of Tweedledum and Tweedledee and three line dancing Cheshire cats from Texas. Well done to all the students involved on a fantastic and original production.
