Three rural community projects look set to share a funding payout of nearly £15,000 as part of Erewash Borough Council’s Rural Grants Scheme.
Councillors at a meeting of the Council Executive this Thursday (12th January) are expected to approve the grants, the third round of payouts from the scheme which was launched in October 2015.
The council has invested £250,000 in total for the scheme to run over four years until 2019 with the aim of providing financial support for projects that will benefit people living in rural areas. The money is awarded to parish councils for the delivery of community projects.
The green light is expected to be given at this week’s meeting for the following grants:
• £6,500 to Stanley and Stanley Common Parish Council for a new 40ft storage container at the rear of the village hall for the equipment of the clubs and users of the hall.
• £4,490 to Risley with Hopwell Parish Council for new windows at the cricket pavilion to provide better security and energy efficiency.
• £3,800 to Ockbrook and Borrowash Parish Council for new metal fencing around the church yard.
Councillor Carol Hart, Erewash Borough Council’s Deputy Leader and Lead Member for Community Engagement, says:
“Everyone is aware that these are financially challenging times, so we launched this scheme to give a clear demonstration of our continued support for the rural areas of our borough. Parish Councils work hard for their communities and this scheme gives them the opportunity to apply for money that will help them with projects or work that will benefit their residents.”
Just over £36,000 was awarded in an earlier round of grants last summer and money still remaining in the 2016/17 budget is expected to be on offer in a further round of rural grant applications.
The meeting of Council Executive is at Ilkeston Town Hall on Thursday 12 January at 10.30am.
