A celebration Gala Evening and live performance will be held at Erewash Museum on Tuesday (29 November) to mark the end of the Unexamined Lives exhibition, which charts 20th century life from the perspective of people who lived or worked in Borrowash or had some connection with the village.
The exhibition was put together from a Heritage Lottery-funded project by the Ockbrook and Borrowash Historical and Archaeological Society in partnership with Erewash-based Wash Arts, The Derbyshire Records Office and the University of Derby.
Guests at the Gala Evening will meet the project’s writers, artists and researchers and some of the people who have shared their 20th century story with a public audience. There will be by live dramatic monologues, interpretive iPad drawings and audio and film techniques.
The evening, which begins at 7pm, is by invitation only and among the guests will be Derbyshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Harydal Dhindsa and the Mayor of Erewash, Councillor Abey Stevenson.
The project has been directed by Borrowash resident Helen Clark, who has written each life from the transcription of voice recordings along with personal writings and diaries. Professional artists used the written words to give the project a new dynamic, with the Unexamined Lives exhibition featuring a film, dramatic monologues, original paintings of village life and a First World War exhibition by genealogist and historical researcher Keith Oseman.
