Maggie Throup, MP for Erewash, was commended yesterday at the prestigious Anthony Nolan Supporter Awards 2016 in the category for Political Supporter of the Year.
The Anthony Nolan Supporter Awards 2016 were back for their fourth year to celebrate, recognise and thank the outstanding supporters who keep the pioneering blood cancer charity moving forward.
Maggie was joined by campaigners, fundraisers, volunteers, lifesaving stem cell donors and celebrities at the awards in the House of Commons.
Maggie, who has a background in biomedical science, is a member of the Health Select Committee. Over the course of 2016 she has helped to champion Anthony Nolan’s pioneering medical research, which aims to improve long term outcomes for stem cell transplant patients.
Maggie said: “It was an honour to be nominated for Political Supporter of the Year Award alongside other inspirational supporters of this incredible and lifesaving charity. It was also a great pleasure to meet other campaigners, volunteers and supporters whose stories are so inspirational and showcase the lifesaving work of Anthony Nolan.”
Anthony Nolan uses its register to match potential stem cell donors to blood cancer patients in desperate need of a stem cell transplant. It also carries out vital research to make stem cell transplants more successful, and supports patients through their transplant journey.
