On Tuesday 3rd May 2016 Maggie Throup MP joined staff, students and volunteers at Granby Junior School to plant a special ‘Queen Cox’ apple tree to commemorate the 90th Birthday of Her Majesty the Queen.
Speaking after the tree planting ceremony, Maggie said: “I am honoured to have been asked by Granby School to plant this commemorative Queen Cox apple tree which I hope students and staff will enjoy for years to come.
“I know that Granby School has an active gardening club, led by local resident Mr Martin, so I was keen to support the school and encourage even more gardening as well as helping to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday.
“Even at 90, the Queen continues to show a youthful zeal for her work and inspire people both young and old and I hope that by adding this tree to the school’s garden, more students will be inspired to get involved with gardening.”
