Students and staff at Saint John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy took to the stage to raise £900 for the Motor Neurone Disease Foundation.
They organised a concert called Hackettstock at the academy in honour of staff member Mick Hackett, who has been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.
Forty students and staff were involved behind the scenes and on stage and a number of ex-students also performed including Vienna Burns, Oliver Babe, Tilly Cook, Aiden Retallick and Shay Ringland.
A raffle was held which raised £229 and at the end of the evening the audience gave Mick a standing ovation for all of his hard work at Saint John Houghton CVA, in Kirk Hallam.
Dan Quenby, Head of Music at the academy, helped to organise the event.
He said: “We wanted it to be a real celebration and it was great to see so many students, past students and staff involved.
“There were lots of bands playing and our academy choir sang Photograph by Ed Sheeran which was really nice.
“Mick would normally be helping out doing the sound and the technical aspects but obviously he was watching the concert so couldn’t do it so our students did it all. They did a fantastic job.
“Mick and his wife were in the front row and at the end of the night it was lovely to see him receive a standing ovation from the audience.”
Mick, who works in the academy’s IT department, said the concert had been a fantastic event.
He said: “I was just blown away by the effort that people had made. There was lots of music and singing; it was great. It was nice to see the ex-students who had come back to perform too.”
