Talks look set to continue between Erewash Borough Council and neighbouring authority Broxtowe to confirm details of a new and efficient shared working partnership for the revenues and benefits service.

A meeting of Erewash’s Council Executive this Thursday (7 April) is expected to agree that the council should finalise an agreement between the two authorities.

The move comes after Broxtowe approached Erewash as its preferred partner to provide the management of its revenues and benefits service. Both councils already work successfully together in areas such as bereavement services, internal audit and in building control.

Councillor Chris Corbett, Leader of Erewash Borough Council, says:

“Shared working makes excellent common sense in this case as it would offer the potential to share best practice and generate significant budget savings at a time when balancing future budgets is getting more difficult for local authorities.

“If the partnership is a success it is hoped that future years should generate further opportunities and shared savings in areas such as fraud, money advice and software rationalisation.”

The initial agreement would be for up to five years with a twelve month notice period on either side.

The Council Executive meeting is at Ilkeston Town Hall on Thursday 7 April at 10.30am.
