Erewash smokers are being urged to use next week’s national No Smoking Day as the platform to give up cigarettes for good.

The theme of this No Smoking Day on Wednesday 9 March is ‘Proud to be a Quitter’ and Erewash Borough Council has backed the message by providing information at its leisure centres on support services available for smokers who want to kick the habit.

Studies show that while two-thirds of smokers want to quit, nearly one in five adults in the UK continue to smoke – including 22% of adults in Erewash.

Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:

“We understand that the majority of smokers do want to stop, but that many find the task too daunting. No Smoking Day is the perfect opportunity to inspire smokers in Erewash to quit for good. To help them succeed all our leisure centres will have information to educate smokers on the range of local services and resources available to them.”

The annual campaign is run by the British Heart Foundation and encourages smokers across the country to pledge to quit on No Smoking Day.
