On your marks, get set . . . . Erewash residents have the chance to take part in a Sainsbury’s Sport Relief mile when Ilkeston hosts the fundraising event on Sunday 20 March.

Enthusiastic ‘milers’ will set off from Rutland Sports Park and Erewash Borough Council is now urging local people and families to register to take part and dust down their trainers to join hundreds of other like-minded walkers and runners for the fun event.

Setting off at 10 am, fundraisers can choose to run or walk one, three or six miles. The one mile route is on the running track at the sports park, while the 3 and 6 mile routes will take place in the lovely scenery of the Nutbrook Trail around the back of the centre.

Adding to the fun atmosphere will be additional free activities on offer for children and adults with the climbing wall, smoothie bike and football and multi-sports.

Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:

“Our Sport Relief Mile event is a great way for the local community to come together, have fun and raise much needed money for those in this country and around the world who live incredibly hard lives. It doesn’t matter if you run or walk, so get out those trainers, join your friends and family and make yourself proud. You can make a difference.”

Residents can enter now by registering for the ‘Rutland Mile’ atwww.sportrelief.com The money raised makes a difference, with 50% used to help people living in the UK and the other 50% funding projects in the world’s poorest communities.
