A new steering group to help produce a key planning document that will drive the development of the Stanton site is expected to be given the go ahead this week.
Erewash Borough Council’s Executive look set to confirm the cross-party group at a meeting at Ilkeston Town Hall this Thursday. (3rd December)
The council wants to produce a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) for Stanton to clarify important issues and set out further policy for the site – a move aimed at helping developers understand the expected requirements when submitting planning applications.
This week’s meeting is expected to agree that a cross party steering group made up of six councillors would work with officers to advise on the content of the SPD. The production of an SPD would also involve talking with all relevant landowners and a draft version formed for public consultation.
Stanton is of major significance to Erewash and appropriate development of the site is of considerable importance to the borough and its owners in terms of residents, housing provision and existing and future employers.
Councillor Michael Powell, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Regeneration and Planning, says:
“Stanton is one of the biggest development opportunities Erewash has ever seen, but there are substantial issues to consider, people to consult with and information to be assessed. The establishment of a member steering group to advise officers on the production of a supplementary planning document will go towards helping the council achieve its regeneration, employment, housing and environmental objectives for this site.”
The council has met with UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) to discuss the Stanton site and its regional importance and will work with all its strategic partners to progress the satisfactory development of the site.
The meeting of the Council Executive will be held at Ilkeston Town Hall on Thursday 3 December at 10.30am.
