Erewash Borough Council has appealed to local people to help it crack down on a rise in graffiti on the Larklands estate in Ilkeston.
The council hopes residents keen to see their area kept clean and tidy will help identify those responsible – perhaps through the numerous ‘tags’ left by the vandals within the graffiti on walls, empty buildings and utility boxes.
Because the graffiti is so widespread and a number of different tags have been spotted, it is believed a number of people may be responsible.
Councillor Garry Hickton, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Environment, says:
“The graffiti lowers the tone and this is not fair on the vast majority of residents in the Larklands area who will be rightly upset that their neighbourhood looks untidy because of this unsightly graffiti.
“We all want to improve the local environment and have pride in where we live. Reducing the amount of graffiti is important in helping us do that and we appeal in the strongest possible terms for the public to help us find these mindless vandals.”
