A wide-ranging project to get more people involved in a healthy and active lifestyle across Erewash is expected to be given the green light this week.

Erewash borough councillors will meet at Council Executive this Thursday and are expected to confirm a successful funding award of £167,999 from the Sport England Community Activation Fund (CSAF).

The council wants to use the money on a project that aims to increase participation in sport and physical activity – with the main focus on families in deprived areas of the borough.

A proposal to appoint two temporary posts to deliver the project – a Sport and Physical Activity Co-ordinator and an Assistant Physical Activity Worker – is expected to be referred to the General Purposes Committee for approval.

Councillors at Thursday’s meeting will be told that the project will look at creating a new family-friendly leisure membership package and the sport and leisure team will work, in particular, to target households that do not currently use the council’s leisure centres.

In addition, new sessions to provide sport and physical activities for families and adults will be organised in local communities and a programme of youth-focused activities will be developed for the 14-24 years age group.

Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:

“We work hard all year round to provide facilities and activities to encourage people of all ages to have a healthier lifestyle. Our success in winning this award from Sport England will enable us to develop further our commitment to getting more people to become more active more often.”

The Council Executive meets on Thursday 10 September at 10.30am at Long Eaton Town Hall.
