A free family cycle festival will be held at Rutland Sport Park in Ilkeston on Friday 11 September between 4pm and 6pm as a celebration of the arrival of the Aviva Tour of Britain race in Erewash that day.
Erewash Borough Council has organised the fun two-hour event to salute all things two-wheeled when children aged two to six-years-old can try out the Balanceability bikes, while there will be free bike maintenance checks and lots of fun and games for all the family.
In addition, a skate park will give BMX bikers, scooter fans and skateboarders the chance to show off their skills. Residents can also book a place on a guided bike ride or an outdoor spin bike class by calling 0115 930 2033.
A smaller event for families and toddlers will be held at Straw’s Bridge in West Hallam between 1.30pm-2.30pm when Balanceability bikes will again be on offer and a fun family treasure hunt with prizes.
Some of the world’s top cyclists are taking part in the internationally-renowned tour – including Sir Bradley Wiggins and fellow GB favourite Mark Cavendish – and will race through West Hallam and Ilkeston on Stage Six from early afternoon.
