Residents who love the three Erewash beauty spots that were awarded the prestigious Green Flag this year can now vote for their favourite as part of the national search to find the UK’s People’s Choice Award.
Voting to find the nation’s favourite green space opened this week and local Green Flag winners West Park in Long Eaton, Victoria Park in Ilkeston and Straw’s Bridge Nature Reserve at West Hallam are all in the running.
Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:
“We are very proud of all our three Green Flag sites and know they are very much loved by local people as well. So now is the time for us all to show just how much we love them and we hope that residents will vote for the Erewash beauty spots to make sure the nation knows about these lovely sites tucked away in our borough.”
Supporters of either the two parks or Straw’s Bridge can vote for their favourite site at www.greenflagaward.org – select ‘East Midlands’ from the drop down search then find your top spot and click ‘vote for this site’.
Voting closes at noon on 30 September and the winner of the People’s Choice will be announced in October.
All Green Flag Award winning sites are entered into the annual People’s Choice vote. Last year saw over 35,000 votes from the public, with Victoria Park in London’s Tower Hamlets taking the crown
