In just two months’ time Ilkeston Life newspaper will be coming through letterboxes and appearing in selected outlets in town and surrounding districts. We’ve adopted ‘Read-all-about-it Ron’ (see illustration) to spread the news. You’ll see him added to articles and announcements about our brand new community publication planned for September.
Someone asked recently: “Why do we need another paper?” Answer: “You’ll see why when it comes.” Our aim is to produce a paper that will show the people of Ilkeston what they’ve been missing—a paper with a great look, great content and a champion for our area.
Ilkeston Life will be an independent paper so we won’t rip you off with stories from miles away, courtesy of sister papers. Neither will we sting you with high advertising rates or an expensive cover price. You’ll see that we’re a paper that tries harder to bring you the news and features you want to read, not skip past. Nostalgia, local groups, faith, creative writing and sport will all appear strongly. We’ll always do our best to include the stories, letters and pictures you send to us, and you’ll regularly discover little gems of great reading you won’t find anywhere else. In short, we’ll try to deliver the kind of paper you want to read.
In order to bring you this super package we need advertising to pay for the printing. Not far away you’ll find details of our great rates for advertisers. If you have used newspaper advertising before, you will think we have made a mistake with our prices, but no, we want to offer you a brilliant deal so you will come back again!
Family announcements can be inserted. A.W. Lymn, Funeral Directors in Ilkeston have agreed to take death notices on our behalf, or you can contact us direct, along with your births, weddings, anniversaries, etc. Again you will find our rates cheaper than anywhere else.
If you are not lucky enough to get Ilkeston Life through your door, you can still get a copy from one of the various outlets who have agreed to sell it for us for the modest sum of 20 pence. (The seller keeps the 20p.)
Ilkeston Life newspaper is very much a community project and we welcome people to join us as contributors or in other ways to get the paper off the ground. Community correspondents, local group/school/church representatives, creative writers and artists, photographers, fund-raisers, advert finders, delivery people and sellers are all needed to make the newspaper a success.
