Tto Grant Shaw and Paul Miller fol-
lowing their appeal for photographs and
anecdotes in our October paper.
They are gathering information for a new
book about ‘other transport’ following
their successful Railway Tales published
ten years ago.
These photos were submitted by Angela
Heald, whose father-in-law James Heald
worked for Midland General Omnibus
Company from the 1940s to 1970s. One
of them shows him receiving a ‘Teas-
made’ on completing 25 years’ service.
If any reader can identify anyone else in
the pictures, Grant and Paul would love to
hear from you.
Paul told us: “We’ve been wanting to
write this successor to Railway Tales for
some time. Many Ilkestonians will have
connections with the canals, road haulage
and now lost bus companies.
“We’d really like to receive more pictures
and hear about amusing or tragic inci-
dents relevant to Ilkeston and district.
Any photographs loaned can be quickly
scanned and returned.”
