Representatives of Granby Junior School attended the Remembrance Service in Park Cemetery this morning.
It was a special occasion for them because recently their school teacher of a hundred years ago, Mr Tingle, had been given a Commonwealth headstone in honour of his war service and sacrifice.
On discovering that he lay in an unmarked grave, they campaigned to get him recognition from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Their efforts were rewarded when the commission agreed that his service in the trenches of the Western Front had brought on the illness from which he died.
