The death has occurred of Ron Sweetland who for many years was chairman of the Shipley View Residents Association.
He steered the group for 23 years before retiring in December last year. He was given several rounds of applause at his final meeting at which members decided that the group had successfully run its course and, as there was no one able to take up the reins, it would disband.
Former County Councillor Michelle Booth said: “This is very sad news. He will be truly and greatly missed.”
Norma Brown of the group said: “All of the residents of Shipley View owe him a debt of gratitude. Over the years, as Chairman of our residents’ meetings, he made a tremendous difference and made our area a great place to live. He was a lovely man, one of life’s gentlemen, who will be sadly missed.”
