Happy playtimes ahead
The brand new play area at Barling Drive Lagoon in Shipley View, Ilkeston is now open.

The play area is fully accessible and includes play equipment which is both exciting and inclusive and includes a Crusader Rope Swing, a 4-metre high activity net and a Surf Rider. New litter bins and seating have also been provided along with an access path.

The venture was funded by a £100,000 grant from FCC Communities Foundation, which was made possible with support from Ilkeston Parents for Play, Erewash Borough Council and Derbyshire County Council. The council is particularly grateful to members of Ilkeston Parents for Play who undertook a variety of fund raising activities which helped to push the project forward.

Consideration has also been given to the look of the park with a row of trees planted along the edge of the site, with more due to be added in the coming weeks.

Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, Councillor Mike Wallis, said:

“It is fantastic to welcome the new play area to Barling Drive. It has been a real labour of love for Ilkeston Parents for Play who have worked tirelessly in their fundraising efforts. This will be an area of fun and relaxation for families and friends to meet, and for youngsters to enjoy their play times in a safe and accessible environment for many years to come.”
