An 11-year-old Ilkeston boy has qualified to represent the East Midlands in the NDP Gymnastics finals.
Rhys Pounder, who is the son of Joanne and Simon Pounder of Malthouse Road, has been attending Erewash Valley Gymnastics Club on Hallam Fields Road, Ilkeston for just over two years.
In September this year Rhys competed at a competition in Leicester alongside other gymnastics clubs. He was competing at Level 3 and the top five high scoring gymnasts from that competition are chosen to represent East Midlands in the NDP finals in Birmingham on 1st November.
Rhys, who attends Hallam Fields Junior School, is the only person from Erewash Gymnastics Club at that level to go through and will be competing alongside another four gymnasts at the same level from other clubs who were also the top scoring gymnasts.
The picture shows Rhys with his Coach Ben Taylor who is Head of MAG (Men’s Artistic Gymnastics).
