Success continues at Erewash Museum
Award winning Erewash Museum has scooped another top honour – winning the Heart of the Community category at the prestigious East Midlands Heritage Awards 2019 for its summer-long beach activities.
The award was announced during a ceremony at the National Civil War Centre in Newark last night (Tuesday 24th), when museum staff were presented with the accolade.
It is the fourth year that the seaside-style beach and play area has run at the museum for the school holidays and it has continued to grow in popularity – with just over 13,000 visitors enjoying the fun over the summer.
This latest success follows the museum’s triumph earlier this year when it won the Derbyshire Museum of the Year title for the fourth time.
Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:
“What another outstanding success for our museum – we are so proud that its excellence has been recognised once again. It really is at the heart of our community. The beach is incredibly popular and the themed weeks that run alongside it mean the garden is packed full of families throughout the summer who all help create a happy, friendly and fun atmosphere. Well done to our hard-working team and the wonderful volunteers who support them for continuing to make our gem of a museum such a pacesetter and award winner.”
This year saw a record number of entries for the East Midlands Heritage Awards, which recognise excellence and innovation in museums, historic houses and heritage sites across the region.
