Flats fears of Kirk Hallam OAPs
Elderly residents of Hemlock Lane in Kirk Hallam are worried over the proposed conversion of the former Hillcrest home into flats.
Hillcrest, a home for elderly people which used to be owned by Derbyshire County Council, has been bought by a property developer who wants to turn it into accommodation for about 50 people.
An elderly resident of Hemlock Lane, which is close to the property, said: “We are all pensioners here and we are concerned about what is to become of the area. It used to be nice and quiet. Now rumours are rife about what kind of people will be moving in.”
“I understand there will be approximately 53 adults housed there, aged between 23 and 45 years of age. I have been told that there will be 44 flats with one bedroom and five larger flats.
“Hemlock Lane is a narrow road leading up to the property. A car park is going to be built at the top for people living there, which will make the road really busy as people come and go.
“We are also concerned that the upper floor flats will look down into the windows of the Hemlock Lane bungalows and houses.
“It is all very worrying for us. I have contacted our MP Maggie Throup who is going to help us fight this.”
