Really nice to see the Red Kite appearing again in Derbyshire. I have seen a few now flying from Shipley Woods direction to Morley and Breadsall. At one time in our history they were as common as pigeons. They were the refuse and recyclers of our cities and towns. Quoting Jim Girdler from 'Caught in The River' he states 'The truth is that once upon a time the Red Kite was as much a London bird as the Ravens in the Tower of London. The streets of Shakespeare’s capital were full of Red Kites. “The city of kites and crows,” he calls it. Here are a couple of my shots of the Handsome Red Kite.
