Illustrating art at Erewash Museum

Exquisite children’s book illustrations by Ilkeston artist Kerry Dilks feature in an exhibition which has opened at Erewash Museum’s Lally Gallery.

Inspired by artists like Raymond Briggs and Quentin Blake, Kerry has written and illustrated her own rhyming picture book and framed images from this along with text are displayed around the gallery. The idea was developed from her love of eating cake and the enjoyment of sharing a sweet treat with friends and family.

Kerry draws on experiences from her childhood, as well as being inspired by her nieces and nephew, to create her work using pen and watercolour.

Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:

“This is a wonderful exhibition by Kerry, an artist who has lived in Ilkeston all her life. Young and old alike will love the illustrations and reading the rhyming text that brings the story to life.”

The Kerry Dilks exhibition is at the Lally Gallery now and throughout the summer until Tuesday 20 August.

Erewash Museum is in Ilkeston Town centre, a short walk from the Market Place. Opening hours are Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am-4pm, and Monday to Saturday during school holidays. Admission is free. Contact 0115 907 1141, email museum@erewash.gov.uk or visit the Facebook page /erewashmuseum
