LABOUR CALL FOR PARADE FOR THE ROBINS
Ilkeston Town FC have won the Championship title of the MFL Premier Division in outstanding style with an 8-1 against Loughborough University on Saturday 27thApril.
The Labour Group of Councillors on Erewash Borough Council are calling for a parade through Ilkeston and a reception at Ilkeston Town Hall to celebrate winning the Championship.
Duncan Payne of Ilkeston Town FC Supporters Group said:
“We think that a parade and celebration of Ilkeston Town FC’s achievement is a great idea. We hope Erewash Borough Council agree and support this proposal.”
Recently elected Erewash Group Leader, Denise Mellors said: “I am extremely proud of the team, coaches and supporters of Ilkeston Town FC. The benefits to our community of having a local football club brings a real sense of inclusivity, pride and belonging, encourages a healthy lifestyle and hopes of achieving aspirations.”
Deputy Leader of the Labour Group and the football club’s local ward Councillor, James Dawson said: “It is great to see Ilkeston Town FC having major success after the work that has been done to make this happen.”
Catherine Atkinson, Labour’s Candidate to be MP for Erewash said: “Ilkeston Town FC have done brilliantly and the promotion is well earned. It should be properly celebrated by our community. A parade and reception will let us show them how proud we are of them.”
