Children run a mile with Maggie
Maggie Throup, Member of Parliament for Erewash, joined pupils at Ladywood Primary School in Kirk Hallam to run their ‘Daily Mile’ with them.
More and more schools are making the Daily Mile an integral part of the school day as it has been shown to improve the physical and mental health of school children.
Speaking about her visit to Ladywood Primary School, Maggie said:
“It was brilliant to see so many enthusiastic pupils at Ladywood Primary School taking part in the Daily Mile and it was great to run with them too.
“The children really enjoyed running around the playground at a variety of speeds, but each encouraging others and having fun.
“This is a fantastic initiative and I would encourage more schools in Erewash to include the Daily Mile within the school day.
“Running is free, it requires no equipment and it has proven physical and mental health benefits. The Daily Mile enables every child, including those with special needs, to be active every day”.
