This wartime postcard was discovered by Ilkeston Life reader Barbara Eaton.
Private Len Ryley of the Sherwood Foresters Regiment had written home to his father in Burns Street. It said (as written):
Dear Dad,
Arrived in Barracks yesterday 11 o’clock, fully rigged out by 3. They’ll be lot better off than on labourer wage up there, as I lost gatehouse job. We are out every night 5 to 9.30. Not sure when going away—any time now. But will try and get over before going. First new suit had for a long time. Love to all. Your affectionate son Len.
