Arts fun across the generations
Imaginations were running wild when the Erewash Borough Councils’ Arts Development Team from Erewash Museum visited Dallimore Primary School recently to continue their Arts and Health work with local older residents.
Pupils at the Kirk Hallam School, along with their grandparents and honorary grandparents, spent the afternoon creating Schools of the Future, using recycled products and paints with the help of Arts Development Officer Katherine Brown and artist Ann Levett from Avago Crafts, an Ilkeston based arts and crafts business, which was launched by Ann and her sister Jan Parr in 2011. The sisters have worked with Arts Development for a number of years and are most well known for their stunning lantern creations for Erewash Festival of Light.
Creations by the pupils and grandparents included schools with space centres, technology hubs, music rooms and even hot tubs!
The intergenerational sessions also saw Erewash Museum’s Collections Officer Kate Crossley-Halls showcase objects with a local focus including Cotmanhay pit lamps, an original posser, used for hand washing clothes, and memorabilia from Stanton Ironworks.
Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:
“The children of the future certainly have a lot to look forward to if this how schools will be in years to come! It is lovely to see different generations working together to blend both fresh ideas and life experiences within an arts environment.”
