Wheels are turning for charity

Two Erewash Borough Council workers will be putting in the pedal power to raise funds for charity when they set out on an 85-mile bike ride to Skegness this month.

Gavin Poole (34) and Andrew Ward (39), who are both Team Leaders in the council’s Green Space team, have organised the sponsored bike ride in aid of Cancer Research and will tackle the marathon journey from Selston to the east coast resort on Saturday 19 May.

The duo have been training for the charity ride for several weeks after deciding to raise funds as members of both Gavin’s and Andrew’s families have been affected by cancer.

Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:

“We applaud Gavin and Andrew for their heartfelt determination to raise money for such a good cause and I know they have the support and admiration of their colleagues for taking on this charity challenge. They have all our good wishes for a successful bike ride and fingers crossed for good weather to help them on their way.”

The fundraisers are both based at the council’s Merlin Way site in Ilkeston and are responsible for teams in the north of the borough – Gavin is the Team Leader for the Open Spaces team and Andrew is Team Leader of the Sports Team.
