Head High For The ‘Hod’ With Charity Birthday Bash

An Ilkeston businessman who attributes his construction successes to the wider community, has decided to throw a very special event at the YMCA Derby, aimed at giving those effected by mental health issues a sense of inclusion.

Ian Hodgkinson, director at Hodgkinson Builders, has worked with former Conservative MP, Amanda Solloway for many years, since taking his own bricklaying apprentices to Westminster to raise awareness of the shortage of tradespeople in the UK. After hearing about her monthly social café event at the YMCA in Derby, Ian has decided to celebrate his upcoming birthday with local people at grassroots level.

Set to take place on Friday 27th April at the YMCA Campus on London Road, the very special birthday party is being organised in partnership with Amanda’s charity, Head High, which aims to bring together everybody and anybody who has been effected by mental health issues.

Serving up local food, cakes and prizes, the party will aim to engage the local community and build positive relationships amongst residents.

Amanda said:“The aim of this event is to bring together people from all walks of life that have been effected by mental health using social interactions.

Instead of the usual birthday celebrations, Ian and the staff at Hodgkinson Builders will be donating their time to serve up food to the guests of the YMCA in Derby on that day.”

Community building and communication positively combats loneliness, which is a major cause of mental health problems amongst adults – a leading factor in Ian’s decision to hold the event.

Amanda added: “I’m delighted that Ian has chosen to celebrate his birthday with us. I’m sure it will be a fun afternoon and bring some positivity to people.”

Ian said: “Hodgkinson Builders has been heavily involved with local community projects over the years, the main reason for this is that the community here in Derby has been very good to us indeed.

“We would not be where we are today if it wasn’t for the support of the local people where our housing developments are located, and for that we are extremely grateful.”
