Age Is Just A Number!
Ashmere Derbyshire who has seven residential homes across Derbyshire launched its bespoke intergenerational programme with Emma Quinn from Boogie Beat music and movement seeing all seven homes take part in a Boogie Beat marathon, inviting local children aged 0-6 years to participate in a free class alongside Ashmere residents.
“We wanted to reach out to the community and build better relationships between young children and the elderly and were confident that working with Boogie Beat was the perfect way to achieve this. The classes use traditional fairy tales and nursery rhymes to help develop confidence, coordination and social skills and most importantly they are fun for any age” said Sarah Dixon community relationship manager at Ashmere.
Emma Quinn from Boogie Beat said “I have been running Boogie Beat music and movement Derby/Notts for over four years in various private day nurseries, pre-schools, soft play centres and schools. The franchise itself was established in 2000 and is highly successful across the UK! I previously worked as a primary school teacher and have danced all of my life so it enables me to mix my two passions- what more could I ask for.”
West Hallam Resident Maureen Mckenzie 81 said “it was a lovely afternoon and they sang their little hearts out and brought some laughter to the afternoon”
Ashmere Derbyshire isn’t stopping there and is looking forward to offering lots more intergenerational activities and after Easter it will see them become the first care home provider in the area offer free dementia friends training to local schools and brownie groups.
