Students at Ormiston Ilkeston Enterprise Academy donated dozens of items of food to a project which supports vulnerable people on their own at Christmas.
The food that was collected has been handed over to Operation Ilkestonian, run by Community Concern Erewash, for the 14th year running.
This year’s collection was organised by Year 11 students Charlotte Turner and Nancy Purcell, both 15.
Charlotte said: “The academy has been supporting Operation Ilkestonian for 14 years now and we were really pleased to continue it as it has become a tradition.
“It’s a great cause and it’s something that the whole school gets behind. It’s nice to be able to support the local community and think that we are helping people who might be on their own at Christmas.”
Nia Salt, Principal at OIEA, congratulated students and staff on their efforts.
She said: “We are delighted to continue our long-running relationship with Operation Ilkestonian and we would like to thank all of our staff, students and families for their tremendous support. This is a cause that is very close to home for everyone at the academy and we hope that our donations brought some festive cheer to the people of Erewash. It’s fantastic to see our students making a difference to their local community.”
As well as a Christmas lunch, Community Concern Erewash supports vulnerable people in the borough throughout the year.
