Friesland School is celebrating some excellent GCSE results.
Headteacher Peter Monk commented: ‘I am so proud today of the achievements of students and staff alike as it is a team approach that has led to this success. Our attainment outcomes are a massive strength. It is an extremely complicated year in terms of accountability measures with both ‘new’ GCSEs in English and Mathematics and numbered outcomes alongside ‘old’ ones. We are confident that our Attainment 8 score of 46.9 (new points) will be well above average. With regards to ‘old’ measures, 71% of students achieved higher grades (4 and above) in both English and Mathematics. 44% of our students achieved what is now classed as a ‘strong pass’ (5 and above) in both of these key core subjects. Again we are confident that these figures will be well above national. Our strong Ebacc figure (5 or above for English and Maths and Cs or above in other subjects) is also pleasing and reflects our traditional values.’
Whilst the consistently high achievement in English and mathematics is particularly pleasing, attainment this year is strong in a wide range of subjects. These include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computing, French, Drama, Music, PE, Music Technology and BTEC PE. The RE results are outstanding.
There were some truly exceptional individual performances. Bearing in mind that Grades 7 – 9 in English and Mathematics are equivalent to A/*A and beyond *A, special mention should be made of Finn Reilly-McQueen who achieved a truly stunning 3 x 9 and 7 x *A.
