Summer celebration at Victoria Park

Ilkeston’s Victoria Park will showcase its new and improved facilities with a summer celebration family event on Sunday 20 August between 12noon and 7pm.

The Green Flag park has been transformed thanks to £740,800 of funding secured by Erewash Borough Council from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and Big Lottery Fund.

Now residents and visitors to the borough are invited to enjoy the summer event to mark the completion of the restoration work.

The fun-filled, community event will include local artists, singers and brass bands – all performing on the newly-restored bandstand – as well as a historical parade, stalls and children’s entertainment.

The HLF project has included the restoration of the bowls pavilion, which now includes a new refreshment kiosk, together with the bandstand, new entrance gates and a new pergola. The park’s marble pillars have also been revitalised and a new planting scheme, designed by the park’s apprentice, has been created around the pergola

Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:

“Victoria Park is much loved by local people and this restoration project has enabled us to transform its key heritage features. We look forward to welcoming everyone to our celebration day – please come along and enjoy both the beauty of this wonderful park and the music and fun on offer at this event.”

The August celebration day will be followed by ongoing community events in the park all year round.
