Mapperley School Goes Four Gold!
Mapperley CE Primary School has been awarded the Gold School Games Mark Award for the fourth year in a row.
The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition.
Sporting achievements at the school this year include: winning the Erewash area small schools Sportshall Athletics final, every child in school participating in a wide range of sports, whether in school or at sports festivals or competitions and children in school have regularly led and organised PE activities from daily circuits, running club and even sports day.
Head teacher Richard Cripps said he was delighted that the school had been recognised for its success yet again.
He said: “With a total of 56 young people competing in local inter and intra-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible. As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at the school has been rewarded this year.
“Special thanks must go to Mrs Debbie Farmer (leads sport at Mapperley), Erewash School Sport Partnership, Mapperley staff and parents. Most importantly the school would like to thank its children, especially our Young Sports Ambassadors.
We look forward to applying to now applying for the Platinum Award and again in 2018!”
Rhian Lilley, development manager at Erewash School Sport Partnership, congratulated the school on its achievement.
She said “I would like to offer my congratulations to Mapperley on earning their well-earned 4th Gold mark for PE and school sport. Mapperley have always fully engaged with the Erewash School Sport Partnership offer whether it be a sporting competition, festival, young leadership opportunity, bikeability or professional development for staff. For a small school Mapperley achieve so much and have represented Erewash on a number of occasions, well done to all staff and pupils.”
