A West Hallam teenager has taken on an uphill task to help elderly churchgoers.
Fourteen-year-old Dan Fletcher, who attends Kirk Hallam Community Academy, is raising money for the upkeep of a mobility scooter which is helping people get up the slope to his local St Wilfrid’s Church.
After the church bought the vehicle, Dan had the idea of raising money to help with the cost of insurance and maintenance.
He recently had a tombola stall at an event in the village hall where he raised £65, taking his total to £300 from three efforts so far.
The event – an indoor sale of new, used and craft items – was organised by local business Jojo’s, who waived the cost of his table to help increase his profit.
Dan has recently started to work for his Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award through his school and the fund raising project is part of it.
