Six members of staff at Saint John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy are each celebrating 25 years service.
They are: Carol Smith, a midday supervisor and cleaner; assistant headteacher Pete McNally, Science teacher Anne Chandler; Margaret Renshaw, catering assistant; teaching assistant Sue Adams and deputy headteacher Sue Doczyminska.
Each of them was presented with gifts and thanked by headteacher Joan McCarthy during a special presentation in front of fellow staff members.
Mrs McCarthy said: “It’s amazing that we have six members of staff who have each worked here for more than 25 years and we thank them for their hard work, dedication and loyalty.
“We wanted to celebrate this milestone by giving them gifts and our thanks in recognition of their valued contribution in making this school the great community that it is.”
Carol said: “I just like working here and seeing all of the different faces every day and talking to people. I came here when my son started and I’ve been here ever since.”
Sue has had a particularly long association with Saint John Houghton CVA, having attended as a student.
She said: “I was a student here and I started working here when my little boy was six months old. I’ve worked as a textiles technician, been in the kitchens and on photocopying. I think I enjoyed the technician role the most as there was such a lot of variety with that job.”
Anne is in her 27th year at the school and said: “I’ve worked in careers and been second in department. It’s just a lovely school and a nice place to be.”
