Today local MP Maggie Throup, Member of Parliament for Erewash, has written to the Transport Secretary to demand a final decision on the eastern route of phase two of HS2. Local residents who fear they will be affected by the route have put their lives on hold for over three years now.

In the letter, Ms Throup also demanded that those residents who will lose their homes, and the business owners that will be directly affected, get immediate and appropriate compensation and that HS2 Ltd go above and beyond the minimum requirements.

Ms Throup said: “Residents and business owners have been waiting far too long for the final decision on the route of HS2 and the station hub. The delay has caused many people a great deal of stress which has had a knock-on effect on their health.

“That is why I have written to the Transport Secretary demanding the final decision be made public over the next couple of weeks. Enough is enough.

“At the same time, it is vital that those who are directly affected get access to compensation from day one, without having to jump through hoop after hoop. In my letter I also called upon the Transport Secretary to ensure that HS2 Ltd is generous with compensation.”
