Erewash MP Maggie Throup has called a meeting with Labour-led Derbyshire County Council to demand that they take action to alleviate congestion on local roads across her constituency.

As part of her Plan for Erewash, Maggie has been campaigning hard to improve road infrastructure across the local area in order to keep traffic moving.

Speaking ahead of the meeting Maggie said:
“The fact is that far too many of our roads here in Erewash are either heavily congestion or in a poor state of repair.

“Since 2010 the Conservatives in Government have invested over £2.5 billion in improving road infrastructure across the East Midlands, much of which has been funneled through to individual County Council’s to decide where the money is spent.

“It’s deeply frustrating for local residents to see money being spent elsewhere in Derbyshire, but not on improving roads in Erewash.

“Now the time has come for direct intervention and so I have called a meeting with the County Council to ask them to rethink their plans and demand that action is taken to ensure Erewash gets its fair share of investment before we just become one big carpark.”
