Applications are being invited for a role which plays a part in the way crime and disorder is tackled in Derbyshire.
A vacancy has arisen for an independent member to sit on the Police and Crime Panel.
The panel scrutinises the work of Derbyshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner who is responsible for setting the priorities and resources for Derbyshire police and supporting community safety activities.
Independent panel members’ roles include:
Reviewing the Commissioner’s police and crime plan and annual report
Reviewing senior appointments made by the Commissioner
Reviewing the level of council tax the Commissioner proposes local people will pay towards policing
Investigating any complaints about the Commissioner’s conduct
Derbyshire County Council’s Director of Legal Services, John McElvaney, said: “This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in reducing crime and disorder across the county.
“We’re looking for a committed and energetic local person to become an independent panel member and we’re hoping for a range of applications to reflect the breadth of Derbyshire’s diverse communities.”
Applicants should live or work in Derby or Derbyshire. Police officers, civilian police or Police and Crime Commissioner staff, county, city, borough or district councillors or Members of Parliament cannot apply.
All independent panel members, whose role is voluntary, receive appropriate training and are allowed to claim reasonable expenses. Meetings are normally held in Matlock and duties are not expected to exceed one day a month.
