Nearly 2,500 people visited Erewash Museum’s first ever beach during its first week of opening.
The popular seaside-style fun runs throughout the summer holiday until Saturday 3 September and is continuing to prove popular with families from across the borough.
The beach, set up in one of the Museum’s gardens, gives families the chance to relax in a deckchair, enjoy some light refreshments from the Old Stables Tea Room or build sandcastles on the beach – buckets, spades and sand play equipment are provided.
Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:
“We have been bowled over by how successful our first beach has proved to be – it was wonderful to see thousands of people enjoying the lovely Museum setting within the first five days of it opening. So if you haven’t been yet, go along and see what everyone is talking about!”
Families can go to the Erewash beach until Saturday 3 September, while the Museum is also hosting its usual themed weeks of activities. The beach will be closed on Bank Holiday Monday, 29 August as the Matlock Band will be entertaining music lovers in the garden from 2pm.

The museum is open Monday to Saturday 10am-4pm during the school holiday. Beach play is subject to weather conditions. Erewash Museum is situated in Ilkeston town centre, a short walk from the Market Place. Admission is free
