journalistOn Sunday July 10 Steve Bridgewater, who lives in Dale Abbey was presented with a prestigious award at a special ceremony at the Royal Aeronautical Society in London.

Judges in the Aerospace Media Awards chose his image of the famous RAF Red Arrows display team as the Aviation Photograph of the Year and he was presented with the award by former Chief of the Air Staff, Sir Stephen Dalton and TV comedian Fred MaCaulay at a gala dinner held in Mayfair ahead of this year’s Farnborough International Airshow.

The award was sponsored by French-based aircraft manufacturer Dassault Aviation.

Steve (41) works a a freelance aeronautical journalist and has edited a number of aviation magazines during his career to date. He was also shortlisted for the Bill Gunston Aviation Technology Writer of the Year award at the same event.

Speaking after the dinner he said: “It is an honour to be recognised by your peers, especially at such a high profile event. I was in complete shock when my name was announced. Growing up I was lucky to have a family that encouraged my passion for aviation and this award is a testament to the support they’ve given me over the decades”.
