All 13 parish councils in Erewash are being encouraged to apply for a share of a £62,500 moneypot that is now available to support projects in the borough’s villages and rural communities.
Erewash Borough Council is offering the money as part of its four-year Rural Community Grants Scheme which aims to provide financial support for projects that have a positive impact on the lives of people living in rural areas.
The council launched the scheme last year, investing a total of £250,000 to be made available to parishes between 2015 and 2019. At the start of this year, five parish councils received a share of £35,000 in the first round of the scheme.
Councillor Carol Hart, Erewash Borough Council’s Deputy Leader and Lead Member for Community Engagement, says:
“Our rural communities are important to us and that is why we have made this substantial funding available over a four-year period. We’re looking for new, innovative and sustainable projects from our parish councils that will make a difference and benefit local residents.”
The 13 parish councils have been contacted and encouraged to apply for a grant for a capital project, with only one bid per parish permitted. The council is encouraging innovative bids and not applications to fund parish council core business. The deadline for applications of a share of this year’s £62,500 funding is 5.30pm on Tuesday 31 May.
