Erewash Museum will unveil its new learning and visitor centre on Easter Saturday 26 March with a fun Victorian Extravaganza for all the family.
The free family event will give residents the first chance to see the newly-completed Heritage Lottery Fund project, which also features a new Old Stables exhibition and a brand new tea room.
The launch event will run between 11am and 3pm and as well as exploring the new additions and its interactive exhibitions, there will be lots of entertainment including the chance to have a photo taken in a classic horse and carriage, horse shoe making, stilt walkers, lace making, a barrel organist and a penny farthing demonstration.
There will also be fascinating details about the residents of Dalby House – which is home to Erewash Museum – from across the years.
Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:
“This will be a celebration day and we want as many people as possible to share it with us as we proudly launch our new-look museum after this major project.
“Our award winning museum is much loved by residents and these new facilities offer us so many more opportunities to extend and build on the magnificent work that is already carried out. Please go along, enjoy the day and take pride in this treasure of a museum that we have in our borough.”
A total of £563,600 funding was secured from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Friends of Erewash Museum and Erewash Borough Council for the project.
Erewash Museum is just off the High Street in Ilkeston town centre, a short walk from the Market Place. Admission is free and it is open Monday to Saturday during school holidays between 10am-4pm.
