A new exhibition of art inspired by found materials, particularly materials that through changes in technology have become a piece of history, will open at Erewash Museum’s Lally Gallery on 5 January.

Artist Jackie Ward’s passion is to allow materials to tell their own story, so vintage bus tickets in her ‘Tickets Please’ collection, become cameos of people waiting at bus stops; old road maps become the ‘Feet and Miles’ collection of walkers and runners; while tax discs are used to depict cyclists in a blur of colour and speed.

Jackie’s background was in textile collage until her focus changed when she stumbled across several rolls of vintage bus tickets turning them into works of art.

Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:

“This exciting exhibition by Jackie is a chance to see truly unique art that uses everyday found materials – a must-see exhibition for all the family.”

The exhibition is at the Museum’s Lally Gallery until Friday 6 February.

Erewash Museum is situated in Ilkeston town centre, a short walk from the Market Place. Opening hours are Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am-4pm, and Monday to Saturday during school holidays. Admission is free.
