The Disability Sports Day held in Ilkeston last month has been voted a big hit by the hundreds of people who attended the event at Rutland Sports Park.

Nearly 350 people with disabilities – from young children through to teenagers and adults – enjoyed the free event and were able to try out a whole range of sports, including curling, tennis, wheelchair basketball, football and athletics.

Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:

“What a wonderful and inspiring event this is, with the number of people taking part increasing every year. It is a delight to see the happiness of people of all ages when they discover sports and activities they didn’t know they were able to do and that are available to them locally.”

The have-a-go day was organised by Erewash Village Games Co-ordinator Toni Jantschenko in partnership with Erewash Borough Council, Erewash: Disability Sport and Umbrella Derby and Derbyshire.
